Locally Assembled Vehicles Support Pope’s Visit

Opaia Motors provided locally built vehicles to support logistics during Pope Leo XIV’s visit, showcasing Angola’s growing automotive sector.

Opaia Motors played a central role in ensuring smooth logistics during the recent visit of Pope Leo XIV to Angola.

The company supplied four golf cart-style vehicles, assembled locally, to transport technical and security teams at the pilgrimage site in Muxima. Each vehicle was identified, inspected and validated at the factory, meeting the high standards of quality and safety required for the occasion.

The vehicles were built in Angola by local labourers and tailored to the logistical and security requirements of a large-scale event. Opaia emphasised that this initiative forms part of its ongoing commitment to supporting events of national and international importance, contributing to efficient and organised logistics.

The company noted that its participation highlights Angola’s potential in the automotive sector and underscores the value of investment in national production and workforce development.

Opaia Motors is situated in the Zona Economica Especial (ZEE) and represents an investment of US$150 million. Officially inaugurated on 20 January 2026, the facility currently employs about 1 500 workers, with a projected workforce of 3 500 once fully operational.

With an annual assembly capacity of 22 000 light vehicles and 1 000 buses, the industrial unit is positioned as a pillar of the Opaia Group, serving the national market and preparing for regional exports.
