McMurtry Automotive has entered a defining chapter in its young but formidable history as full production of the Spéirling Pure begins in the United Kingdom.

The tiny British engineering firm, already famous for shattering the Goodwood Hillclimb record, is now scaling up to deliver customer cars from summer 2026, marking the first time its radical fan-powered single seater moves from prototype status to a fully fledged production model.

In early February 2026, McMurtry officially opened its new 2,700 square metre production facility in Wotton under Edge. The site supplements its existing headquarters at Swinhay House and provides the manufacturing space required to build up to 100 examples of the Spéirling Pure.

The expansion is not only about assembling cars. It signals the company’s intention to grow its model range in future years, supported by an additional engineering and technology division that will operate from the expanded Swinhay estate.

Alongside the factory launch, the company has unveiled McMurtry Technology, a standalone innovation arm created to commercialise the intellectual property developed through the Spéirling programme. This includes breakthroughs in performance battery systems, electric powertrains, vehicle lightweighting, advanced software and the company’s signature Downforce on Demand concept.

The division is already generating seven figure revenues and working with multiple high profile clients, reflecting global interest in McMurtry’s unconventional engineering philosophy.

The Spéirling Pure has been through more than 5,000 km of prototype testing and incorporates over twenty two patents, all developed within McMurtry’s small but highly specialised team.

The car’s distinctive technology centres on twin high speed fans that generate up to 2,000 kg of downforce from a standstill. This enables extraordinary 3G cornering performance and acceleration figures that outpace most modern racing machinery.

McMurtry’s late founder, Sir David McMurtry, envisioned a machine unconstrained by motorsport regulations, aerodynamics or industry convention. His sons Richard and Ben now lead the company, continuing his philosophy of engineering without compromise.

The Spéirling Pure is powered by an electric drivetrain producing around 1,000 horsepower. It can sprint from zero to 60 mph in as little as 1.5 seconds and reach a top speed of approximately 190 mph.

The latest production configuration features a compact 60 kWh battery pack that reduces mass compared with earlier prototypes. McMurtry states that while running time may be limited at full GT3 pace, outright lap performance exceeds GT3 expectations due to the car’s extreme levels of downforce, grip and acceleration.

Prototype versions have already rewritten record books at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Top Gear Test Track. McMurtry’s validation programme has also demonstrated the car driving upside down using its fan system, a feat that recently gained renewed attention through high profile online coverage.

McMurtry confirms that the first customer cars will be delivered in summer 2026, with the production run limited to around 100 units globally. The price begins at £995,000 before taxes, shipping and options.

Each car will be hand built at the new Gloucestershire facility, with the original Swinhay House becoming the company’s dedicated research and development centre.

The company has also grown its workforce significantly, with specialist recruiters reporting increased hiring as McMurtry prepares for long term expansion. The brand continues to attract engineers from elite motorsport and aerospace backgrounds, reflecting its reputation for high pressure, boundaries-breaking engineering.

The Spéirling Pure remains a track only hypercar designed for maximum performance rather than road use. In a landscape where most electric vehicles aim for efficiency and practicality, McMurtry stands almost alone in building a machine solely for the exhilaration of extreme speed.

With production underway, a new factory open, a thriving technology division and strong demand from the world’s most dedicated circuit enthusiasts, the Spéirling Pure looks set to redefine what a British electric performance brand can achieve. And as summer 2026 approaches, the first customers will soon have the chance to sample what could be the most intense driving experience ever offered in a production electric car.
