Jaecoo J5 BEV arrives in South Africa

Jaecoo has introduced the all-electric J5 BEV to the South African market, adding a battery-powered option to its compact SUV range with a focus on practicality, technology and everyday usability.

Powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 155kW and 288Nm, the J5 BEV offers Eco and Sport driving modes and a WLTP range of 402km from its 58.9kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Charging flexibility includes 11kW AC and up to 130kW DC fast charging, with a 30–80% top-up achievable in around 28 minutes. Vehicle-to-load functionality further enhances everyday versatility.

Design highlights include a streamlined fascia with a full-width lightbar, 18-inch alloys, panoramic moonroof, LED lighting, roof rails and a power tailgate. Inside, buyers can choose black or white trim, with ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, rear air vents and a sunshade.

Technology features centre on a 13.2-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration, voice command and Carlinko app control, complemented by a digital driver display. Practicality is ensured with up to 1 284 litres of luggage space.

Priced from R549 900, the J5 BEV comes with a pre-order incentive package worth over R50 000 ahead of its August 2026 launch, including a discount, public charging credit and an EV Starter Kit with a home wallbox charger.
